Juneteenth
“Juneteenth, also called Emancipation Day, celebrates the freedom of slaves who lived in Texas. On June 19, 1865, Major General Gordon Granger, led his union troops to Galveston, Texas to proclaim that the slaves of that state were free. Upon his arrival, he issued General Order Number 3, which stated that by the power of the President of the United States, all slaves in Texas were declared free. This freedom imbued the same property rights that Caucasians enjoyed. Two years before this on January 1, 1863, Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.
After the Emancipation Proclamation was issued, slaves in Union controlled areas, were freed. On June17, 2021 President Joe Biden signed a Bill into lay establishing Juneteenth as federal holiday….”
