God Meets You Where You Are

By J.E. Nickerson

Have you ever looked at a situation and wondered how you would succeed in your goal without a lot of resources to use? A few days ago, my family went to the store to purchase a turkey and other things we would need for the holidays. Because of rising prices and our financial situation, we were wondering how we would afford to purchase all of the things that were required for our holiday needs.

Even though we were concerned, God had already provided the answer we needed. As we began walking through aisles, he lead us to buy one get one free deals on many of the things we needed.

When it came time to get a turkey for our thanksgiving meal, God lead us to a selection of turkeys that were only 49 cents per pound. God’s provision enabled us to purchase everything we needed for our impending Thanksgiving meal.

Sometimes when we think about God, we imagine him as a distant being who is out of touch with our needs and desires. While we are thankful for the family, friends and things we have during this time of year, thinking of God as our provider, is often a difficult concept for many people.

But as the story I just told you shows us, God is interested in our daily life. I have often heard in church that God will meet us where we are, in order to show us who he is. This is what happened in my life during this shopping trip.

In spite of our financial limitations, food shortages and other issues affecting our life, God stepped into the life of my family and met us where we were. He provided a way for us to achieve our goal of having food for Thanksgiving.

When you are faced with a problem or situation that you do not know how to deal with, I encourage you to take your eyes off the problem and look to God for the answer. This holiday season, many people are facing issues that they don’t know how to overcome. But God already has the solution for the situation you are facing. The problems did not take him by surprise. Instead, he is waiting for you to look to him for help, so that he can meet you where you are. He wants to show you how much he cares about you and step into your world with the answers you are seeking.

Open your life to God and be willing to give him a chance to show up in your situation. As you celebrate the holiday season with the people you care about, consider inviting God into your gatherings. Ask him to give you the gifts of peace, hope and love. Letting God into your life this season, can open the door to a relationship that you never imagined you could have and give you benefits that last longer than the food and memories you create with family and friends.
