The Power of Gratitude: Unlocking a Life of Fulfillment and Joy
BY J.E. Nickerson
What does it mean to have a fulfilling life? If you want to know what makes a fulfilling life, you must begin with the God who made you. Living a fulfilled life requires us to turn our attention to God, whose blessings favor and provision enable us to do everything from providing for ourselves in our family to taking a breath and enjoying good health.
While we may have many blessings and many things that we are grateful for, we must never forget that the source of all good things in life is found in God.
A fulfilling life also requires gratitude for the things you have. It’s not a passive appreciation or awareness of the people who show you kindness. Instead, it is an intentional and active love for the people who have shown you love. It means that you find ways to express your appreciation for people who have been there for you, who have lifted you up when you were down, and who have given you help when you didn’t know what to do.
Gratitude of this kind requires humility. It means that we humbly recognize that even though we may be greatly talented and may have many abilities that help us to achieve our goals, we can’t do life alone.
It has been said that a man wrapped up in himself makes a very small package living fulfilled. Life requires us to go beyond the boundaries of ourselves and become interested in the lives of others, not interested in gossiping about them, but truly interested in becoming a part of their life and making their life better because of our interactions with them.
When you begin to live life in this manner, not only will you start to enjoy the blessings in your life in a more meaningful manner, you will also become increasingly aware of the goodness of God and his plan for your life, his ability to use you in other people’s lives.
Open your heart to gratitude today and begin to live the most filling life you could ever imagine.
