God is our source of joy and strength

There are times when we feel as though we don’t have the inner resources to reach out to others or handle the issues and problems that life throws at us. In these moments, we must remember that we are never alone. God will send us strength and hope, if we reach out to him in faith and prayer. After the Jewish leader Nehemiah finished repairing the walls around the city of Jerusalem, a task that required great effort and commitment from the people around him, he instructed the people to rest and enjoy the things God had given them. Nehemiah 8:18 says the following, “Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet drink, and send portions to him for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. And be not grieved and depressed, for the joy of the Lord is your strength and stronghold.” 


Sometimes the situations we are facing seem to take all of our strength and effort. Instead of being depressed and letting ourselves be overwhelmed, we should rely on God to restore our strength and joy in life. Only when we rely on God as our source and provider, can we truly enjoy the good things of life and have the ability to handle the challenges that come our way.
